Dr. Yi at Renov Dental is truly one of a kind. From the very first moment, she took her time with me and was incredibly thorough — I never felt like just another patient being rushed through. Her kindness put me at ease right away, and it was clear that she genuinely cares about the people she treats. Her hygienist went above and beyond as well, offering me a pillow for comfort and making sure the room had a pleasant, calming scent — those little touches really made a difference. What really stood out was Dr. Yi's honesty. She gave me a straightforward assessment of my dental health without any unnecessary upselling or pressure. I always felt like she had my best interests at heart. I highly recommend Dr. Yi and her wonderful team to anyone looking for a dentist who is knowledgeable, compassionate, and completely trustworthy.

We have been patients of Dr Yi for over a decade. When she moved to Claremont I decided that the hour plus drive to see her was worth it for myself and my son. Just recently after going to see multiple dentists and not receiving the same quality of care she provides my husband followed suit and made the change. As luck would have it, my husband cracked a tooth on a Saturday of all days. He sent a text message to the office informing them of the emergency. Dr Yi took the time to communicate with him on Easter Sunday and had him in on Monday. My husband was worried about loosing the tooth and all the money he would have to spend on an implant. Dr Yi worked her magic and saved the tooth. Any other denstist would have pulled it but she truly cares about her patients not just making a buck. She is always kind, takes the time to listen to your concerns and always tries to provide the best care and recommends the best path forward when it comes to deciding on a treatment plan. Truly the best dentist and staff.

Finding Dr. Yi was the best thing I have done for my dental health. I had avoided visiting the dentist for twenty years due to extreme fear. Well, Dr. Yi’s patience, kindness, and gentleness calmed my nerves, so much so that I was able to get my dental health back on track. I can truly say that I am no longer afraid of going to the dentist. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Yi and her amazing staff.

My husband and I completed our full dental treatment with Dr. Sally Yi at Renov Dental Group, and it was truly one of the best dental experiences we’ve ever had. The professionalism, care, attention to detail, and genuinely warm atmosphere were present at every step — from the very first visit to the final result. I’ve always been very afraid of pain and dentists, but Dr. Yi treated me with such tenderness and care, as if I were her own daughter. That sense of safety and respect for my fears was priceless. She explained everything calmly, worked gently and precisely, and I felt trust from the very beginning. A special thank you to Kristine, who was always incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely caring. Even the little touches — like the drink fridge at the entrance — show how much they care about their patients. All the juices are sugar-free! Isn’t that just the sweetest thing? We’re deeply grateful to the entire team for their professionalism, warmth, and heartfelt care. We’re your patients for life now ❤️

Dr. Yi is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable in her expertise. Dr. Yi is the first dentist I have had in my entire 34 years of life who has taken the time to give excellent advice with top-tier bedside manner. Dr. Yi spent time thoroughly explaining each procedure to me and visually showing me in my X-rays the issue at hand. In addition, Dr. Yi made it very clear that my dental care was my choice and she would support each of my decisions. I felt comfortable, informed, and welcomed in her care. This level of care I’ve received from Dr. Yi is exceptional. Lastly, her office staff is equally as talented and courteous. They provided a great environment of support, knowledge and care. I will continue to come back to Dr. Yi’s office and recommend her practice to new patients looking for a group who truly cares about your dental health. I also loved the small details in her practice (essential oils, drinks at the front, copies of procedures prior to agreeing). The above components add up to a great experience for any patient looking for competent, intelligent and talented clinicians!

How do I know if I need root canal treatment?+

Common signs include lingering tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when chewing, swelling, or a tooth that feels tender to touch. However, only an exam and imaging can confirm whether a root canal is needed.

What happens during a root canal appointment?+

The tooth is numbed, the infected or inflamed tissue inside the tooth is removed, the canals are cleaned and shaped, and the space is sealed. In many cases, a follow-up restoration is needed to protect the tooth.

Is root canal treatment painful?+

The procedure is performed with local anesthesia, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain during treatment. Some soreness afterward is possible, and comfort can vary from person to person.

How long does recovery usually take?+

Recovery time varies depending on the tooth and the amount of inflammation present. Many patients notice improvement within a few days, but tenderness can last longer in some cases.

Will I need a crown after a root canal?+

Some teeth, especially back teeth, may need a crown after treatment to help protect them from fracture. Your dentist will recommend the right restoration based on the tooth’s location and condition.

Can a tooth still be extracted instead of treated?+

Yes. If the tooth is too damaged, cannot be restored predictably, or has a poor long-term prognosis, extraction may be discussed as an alternative.

What if I already had a root canal and the tooth hurts again?+

Persistent or returning symptoms may mean the tooth needs re-evaluation. In some cases, retreatment or another procedure may be considered depending on the cause.

What Root Canal Treatment Involves

Root canal treatment is designed to remove infected or inflamed tissue from inside the tooth and help preserve the natural tooth when possible. The procedure typically includes numbing the area, creating a small opening in the tooth, cleaning and shaping the canals, and placing a filling material inside the root space.

After the tooth is treated, it usually needs a final restoration such as a filling or crown to help protect it from future damage. The exact steps can vary depending on the tooth, the extent of infection, and whether additional treatment is needed. Your dentist will explain what to expect before treatment begins.

Who May Need Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment may be recommended for patients who have ongoing tooth pain, lingering sensitivity, swelling around a tooth, or discomfort when chewing. It may also be considered when a tooth has deep decay, a crack, or trauma that has affected the nerve inside the tooth.

Not every painful tooth needs a root canal, which is why an evaluation matters. Your dentist will look at your symptoms, examine the tooth, and review imaging before recommending the next step.

Important Considerations

Root canal treatment can help preserve a natural tooth, but outcomes depend on the condition of the tooth, the extent of infection, and how the tooth is restored afterward. Some teeth may still need additional treatment, and in certain cases extraction may be the better option.

Temporary soreness, tenderness when biting, or mild swelling can occur after treatment, and recovery time may vary from person to person. If symptoms worsen, do not improve, or return after treatment, follow-up care may be needed. Your dentist will review these possibilities with you so you can make an informed decision.

Root Canal Treatment: What’s Included

Your visit may include a dental exam, digital imaging, and a discussion of your symptoms and treatment options. If root canal treatment is recommended, the procedure is planned around the affected tooth and the extent of infection or inflammation.

Care may also include guidance on pain management, aftercare instructions, and recommendations for restoring the tooth after treatment. Because every case is different, the exact steps can vary based on the tooth involved and whether additional restorative care is needed.

Schedule a Root Canal Evaluation in Montclair

If you are experiencing tooth pain or think you may need root canal treatment, the next step is an evaluation. A prompt exam can help determine whether the tooth can be saved and what treatment is most appropriate.

Renov Dental Group welcomes patients from Montclair and nearby communities who want clear answers and careful endodontic care. Contact our office to schedule a consultation and discuss your symptoms with our team.
